Macdonald voices Donald Bridge concerns
VICTORIA – Columbia River – Revelstoke MLA Norm Macdonald presented a petition in the British Columbia Legislature on behalf of Golden area citizens who are concerned about plans for the new Donald bridge.
“A number of people have spoken with me about the access to and from the Trans Canada Highway from Donald and Dejordie roads,” said Macdonald. “We are all happy that the Donald bridge is being replaced, but we have to make sure that we use local knowledge to make the upgrades work for all users.”
Safety issues have been raised about approaches to the new bridge.
Thirty local residents signed a petition opposing the access proposed by the Ministry of Transportation.
Macdonald met directly with the Minister of Transportation Shirley Bond about these concerns and was assured by ministry staff that the concerns of residents will be taken into consideration.
“The continued upgrading of our local highways is important and welcome, but it is equally important that we make changes that are both safe and efficient.”
