Macdonald responds to the tragic death in the mountains near Golden

Columbia River – Revelstoke MLA Norm Macdonald released the following statement today:

Macdonald: I was very saddened to hear of the death of a 44 year old woman in the mountains near Golden.  My condolences go out to her husband and her family as they deal with this tremendous loss.

I am pleased that the RCMP will be proceeding with an internal officer review providing our community with a clearer sense of the events that led to the delay in rescue.

Golden and District Search and Rescue (GADSAR) is a dedicated group of local residents who provide critically important services, often under the worst of conditions.  Search and rescue volunteers also fund-raise for their own equipment through a variety of community activities.

We all rely on the services provided by search and rescue volunteers, and GADSAR is responsible for numerous life-saving rescues every year.  I feel strongly that their commitment and willingness to respond to the call should be recognized.

Again, my thoughts are with the family.  This tragedy will not soon be forgotten by the people of Golden.
