MLA enjoys tour of Kimberley Heritage Museum

KIMBERLEY – Between meetings with constituents in Kimberley this Friday, Columbia River – Revelstoke MLA Norm Macdonald had the opportunity to tour the Kimberley Heritage Museum. Hosted by museum curator Marie Stang, Macdonald was impressed by the collection and the museum’s celebration of Kimberley’s history.

“I’m a history teacher, so I always enjoy museums,” said Macdonald.  “Kimberley has such an amazing history, and it is great to see these artifacts preserved.”

Macdonald was particularly interested in the display about mountain climber Pat Morrow, an individual who he has always admired.

“Pat Morrow is a local hero.  He was the first person in the world to climb the highest peaks in all seven continents, and that is a remarkable accomplishment.”

Viewing the collection also brought about conversations about many other local heroes, not only those who have become world renowned, but those who are heroes because of the work they have done in the community.

“Marie told me a number of stories of the people who had worked hard to establish the museum; people who volunteered their time and also gave of their own financial resources to make sure that museum was successful.

“I want to thank Marie for taking the time to show me the collection and answer my questions.  Protecting our heritage is really important, and I understand that curators of small museums, the board of directors and all the museum volunteers work very hard to keep the doors open.  That work is appreciated.”
