Minister should provide support proposed Kootenay Child Health and Development Centre

Letter to the Editor:

The proposed Kootenay Child Health and Development Centre is a project that will bring a whole range of children’s services under one roof. This facility will be located in a 13,000 square foot building located in Cranbrook’s downtown core. But everything is on hold until funding can be found to complete the necessary renovations.

Services provided will include infant development consultants, occupational and physical therapists, and teleconferencing facilities.

This is a facility that is badly needed in the Kootenays. This facility will serve children and their families from Golden to the Elk Valley. Currently, kids in need of care are often required to travel to Calgary, Kelowna or Vancouver. Travelling this distance can be a real barrier to proper treatment.

It is time for the Minister of Health to come to the table with the funding required to make this project a reality. He needs to do what is best for our kids, and that is to make sure that the care they need is available right here in the Kootenays.
